Hello, and welcome to You Legal TV.

Is it a bird, is it a plane, or is it Superman? These days it is likely to be a Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA), commonly known as a drone.

When it comes to legislation, a pressing concern is the potential of drones to invade the privacy of individuals.

While the Privacy Act and a number of state and federal laws are put in place for privacy protection, the current regime is outdated when it comes to drone use.

In July 2014, the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs prepared an inquiry into drones and the regulation of air safety and privacy.

In December 2016, the Government still yet to follow through, leaving drone laws in uncertain territory.
