How Virtue Vax Went From Idea to Inception

Dr Jamie Lea Whyte is a GP with over 15 years of experience. In 2018, she identified a gap in the health industry for providing a mobile immunisation service to workplaces, mainly childcare centres.

One of the biggest barriers to child centre staff not keeping up with their vaccinations was not because they didn't want to, but was due to the lack of time to fit it into their day.

Dr Jamie’s goal was to raise awareness of illnesses such as influenza and whooping cough and the importance of regular vaccinations;  her vision for achieving this was via a mobile vaccination service.

Challenge:

While continuing to work as a GP, Dr Jamie also set about establishing her Virtue Vax clinic. However, she encountered significant barriers regarding legal requirements.

Not only was she planning to provide health services, but she wanted to provide them off-site! So she came to us for advice.

As Jamie said, “the Medical industry is a very litigious world”, and while she felt incredibly passionate about her practice and desire to improve health standards, she felt as though the compliance obligations were weighing her down.  Such understanding being a medical expert didn’t make her a legal one also.

Solution:

Dr Jamie didn’t want to get off to a bad start and wanted to be certain that all her legal, compliance and regulatory needs were in place before starting her clinic. It was important for her from the outset that she protected both her and the company’s risk.

The best thing that stood out in my mind was that you’ve got a legal company that’s personalised,  the communication is impeccable... and There’s a lot of care and effort behind the scenes

We worked with Jamie to provide her clarity on her legal obligations and to ensure she hit the ground compliant.

As she hadn’t opened her own clinic before, Jamie’s main concerns were:

  • Not understanding fully the compliance steps she was required to complete

  • Missing a critical step meaning she was exposing herself to risk

  • Jeopardising her business and practicing certificate

  • That she wasn’t interpreting her requirements correctly

Outcome:

We worked with Dr Jamie to create a solution that was effective and straight-forward, removing the “legalese” and focusing on getting correct documentation in place.

Working with Jamie through the setup of her clinic, we helped her overcome her concerns as she was able to make better sense of the legal framework in which she was operating.

Jamie is now passionately running her clinic, Virtue Vax, in South East Queensland, knowing she is protected.

Dr Jamie also continues to practice as a GP and is a mum of 3 kids, being able to juggle this knowing her clinic is in good hands.
